I don’t normally do product reviews, but I’ve been testing this service and think it’s good enough to share with other authors.
WHAT IS PUBBY?
Pubby is an online service that helps you get Amazon reviews for your book. If you’re asking yourself, “How do I get more Amazon reviews?!” then this is one way (amongst others—see my last post).
HOW DOES PUBBY WORK?
Pubby allows you to “trade” with other authors. Now, it’s not strictly a trade. It’s not as though you say, “I’ll review my book if you review mine.”
Instead, you earn “snaps” or credits as you review books, and then you can use those credits to ask people to review your book(s).
HOW MUCH DOES PUBBY COST?
I signed up for the unlimited annual plan for $240, although there are monthly plans as well. The unlimited plan gives me:
- Submit Unlimited Books for Review
- Sign-Up Bonus of 1,500 Snaps
- Unlimited Reviews for Your Book
Note: You end up “paying” around 1,000 snaps for a review, so you basically get one free review with your signup fee. To earn more snaps, you have to give other people reviews.
PROS & CONS OF PUBBY
The pro is that this is a very affordable way to get Amazon reviews. Other services will charge as much as $150 per review and you have to buy dozens of them.
The downside of this service is that you can’t simply buy more snaps. You have to review books. That means everyone else has to review books, and as you might expect, people don’t necessarily want to spend a lot of time reviewing books they wouldn’t otherwise read, so the reviews you get tend to be short and shallow. I might be one of the few actually reading any part of the books I review through Pubby. That said, the reviews I’m getting for myself and my clients are good enough for my needs.
