I was recently “hired” as a contributor to Forbes Magazine online. I say “hired” because I don’t get paid in any traditional sense that involves money. But I don’t write for free, I do obtain substantial benefits from writing for Forbes in the forms of experience, feedback on my writing, exposure, and simply the enjoyment of more writing, which I love to do.
I have had several people express confusion about how to follow my writing on Forbes and leave comments on articles, so here’s a simple tutorial.
Following Me (or anyone else) On Forbes
Step 1 – Visit one of my articles. Here’s the first one.
On the screen you’ll see a “+Follow” link next to my photo. I’ve outlined it in the screenshot below in a green box.
Step 2 – Click on the link.
When you click on the link, it’s going to ask you to log in or sign up. You can use one of your social media profiles to sign up, or you can click on a link below and create an account on Forbes. Personally I recommend using your Facebook account. Yeah, it will pop up something about Forbes wanting to take control of your account and access all your friends and send them spam–or at least that’s how it sounds, but don’t worry. It’s just connecting your Facebook account to Forbes. They’re not going to start posting stuff on your Facebook account without you, and they aren’t going to spam your friends or steal your identity.
Step 3 – You’ll get this pop up asking you whether you want to be informed of new posts immediately or later. Please choose immediately. Otherwise you won’t get an update until hours or days later, a conversation will already have taken place, and everyone will have moved on.
Step 4 – You’re done. Now, whenever I post something new to Forbes you’ll get an email informing you about it. Click on the link, read the article, and leave your comments.
Leaving Comments On An Article on Forbes
Step 1 – You could click on the “comment now” link at the top of the article, which will take you to the bottom of the article and prep everything for you to post your comments. See the screenshot below marking where that link is.
Step 2 – But you’re probably going to be at the end of the article when you finish it, unless you read backwards, so rather than clicking on that link you’ll just need to scroll down a ways until you see what you see below. Then click in the field, which will prompt you to log in if you haven’t logged in already, and then you can leave a general comment or you can reply to someone else who has already commented if you see fit.
